THRIVE IN ACTION

How to create a sense of belonging in schools

We’re connecting online between 4:00pm and 4:45pm BST on 15th May. Can’t join live? Sign up anyway and we’ll share the recording.

What is the event about?

When pupils feel they belong, they are more confident, happier, and motivated to engage in learning. They’re also more likely to attend school consistently, laying the groundwork for continued growth. A strong sense of belonging also reduces the risk of young people seeking connection in less positive spaces, such as harmful online communities.

Whether you’re a school leader, teacher, or support staff, this session is an opportunity to reflect, expand on your current practices and create a school environment where all pupils feel connected and motivated.

What you’ll take away:

- Why a sense of belonging is essential for pupil wellbeing, engagement and academic success

- Practical approaches to quickly settle pupils in, motivate them and support sustained engagement

- Understand the role of a positive, proactive approach to behaviour and the importance of setting clear rules and boundaries to foster a sense of belonging

- Explore how positive relationships and consistent, caring adult connections promote belonging
